How to Make Purl 1 Under the Loose Strands (P1 ULS)

  1. Insert the right needle into the back of the work, under the loose strands.
  2. Insert the right needle purlwise into the front loop of the next stitch on the left needle.
  3. Wrap the yarn counterclockwise around the needle.
  4. Pull the yarn through the stitch and out from under the loose strands.
  5. Slide the stitch off the left needle to complete the P1 ULS.

Worked Flat

Cast on a multiple of 6, + 5.

Color A
  • Row 1 – Right side: K1, *k3, sl3 wyif; work from * to last 4 stitches, k4.
Color B
  • Row 2 – Wrong side: Purl.
  • Row 3: K1, *k3, sl3 wyif; work from * to last 4 stitches, k4.
Color C
  • Row 4: Purl.
  • Row 5: K1, *k3, sl3 wyif; work from * to last 4 stitches, k4.
Color A
  • Row 6: P4, *p1, k1, p4; work from * to last stitch, p1.
  • Row 7: K1, *sl3 wyif, k3; work from * to last 4 stitches, sl3 wyif, k1.
Color B
  • Row 8: Purl.
  • Row 9: K1, *sl3 wyif, k3; work from * to last 4 stitches, sl3 wyif, k1.
Color C
  • Row 10: Purl.
  • Row 11: K1, *sl3 wyif, k3; work from * to last 4 stitches, sl3 wyif, k1.
Color A
  • Row 12: P2, k1, p1, *p4, k1, p1; work from * to last stitch, p1.

Repeat rows 1–12.
