How to make the Shell stitch
- Insert the right needle into the front of the stitch 5 rows below the third stitch on the left needle. Wrap the yarn counterclockwise around the right needle and pull the yarn through that loop to create a long loop. Leave this loop on the right needle.
- Knit 1.
- Make a second loop into the same stitch.
- Knit 1.
- Make a third loop into the same stitch.
- Knit 1.
- Make a fourth loop into the same stitch.
- Knit 1.
- Make a fifth loop into the same stitch.
- Knit 1.
- Finally, make a sixth loop into the same stitch.
Cast on and setup row
Color A
- Cast on: A multiple of 14, + 2.
- Setup row: Knit.

- Row 1 – Right side: Knit.
- Row 2 – Wrong side: Knit.
- Row 3: Knit.
- Row 4: Knit.
- Row 5: Knit.
- Row 6: Knit.
Color A
- Row 7: *knit 9, shell stitch; work from * to last 2 stitches, knit 2.
- Row 8: Knit 1, *(slip slip purl) x3, purl 1, (purl 2 together) x3, knit 7; work from * to last stitch, knit 1.

- Row 9: Knit.
- Row 10: Knit.
- Row 11: Knit.
- Row 12: Knit.
- Row 13: Knit.
- Row 14: Knit.
Color A
- Row 15: Knit 2, *shell stitch, knit 9; work from * to end.
- Row 16: Knit 1, *knit 7, (slip slip purl) x3, purl 1, (purl 2 together) x3; work from * to last stitch, knit 1.
Repeat rows 1–16.
